Gear Review: YETI GoBox Collection

WHAT IS IT?

YETI GoBox Collection

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Here is a YETI-proof collection of rugged and virtually indestructible storage or “load out” boxes that can be customized by size to fit specific storage needs. What stands out even more are the boxes are dustproof and waterproof. All GoBoxes meet international standards for sealing effectiveness, are rated for protection from a blast of water and are waterproof for up to 30 minutes after being submerged in 1 meter of water. The GoBox30 gets YETI’s tried-and-true HeftyHauler Handle for one handed hauling, an updated latch design for easy, one-finger closing and a new lid design for increased stickability. Available in three sizes: 15, 30 and 60.

HOW DO I USE IT?

The GoBox fills a niche — it’s not a cooler — you can add a YETI Tundra to your lineup. The GoBox 15 is the perfect size to keep essentials dry, like valuable smartphones, keys, wallets and other small personal items. You can even add pull-foam to fit camera lenses and bodies for a waterproof camera case. The GoBox 30 can be fitted for a full camp kitchen, truck or boat box, and the GoBox 60 is big enough to be your personal locker for apparel and other bulkier items.

Having your gear accessible and protected is nonnegotiable for almost any pursuit, and yet typical gear cases lack organizational capabilities, or don’t stand up to the demands of the outdoors. The GoBox family can endure seasons in the sun, negative temps and repeated abuse being lugged in and out of the truck, boat and the blind.

What really stands out for the entire collection is the Caddy. The GoBox 15 fits one Caddy, while you can put two in the GoBox 30, and the GoBox 60 fits three Caddies. Each box comes equipped with one Caddy. Dividers add even more customizable options. The GoBox 30 and 60 each come with one divider, but the 60 can fit two. You can also use YETI’s optional Tie-Down kit on each GoBox size. You can also add YETI’s Bear Proof Locks for even more security.

HOW MUCH?

GoBox 15: $125
GoBox 30: $250
GoBox 60: $300

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

I’m an organization freak, and it drives my wife crazy. But if you aren’t like me, and you prefer just to throw your stuff into a box, then the GoBox is still for you with its customizable storage capabilities and super-tough, waterproof design. I don’t necessarily buy into the notion that you’re “buying the brand and not the quality” in some brands like YETI. The waterproof GoBox is worth the investment, and I mean that for longevity — especially if it saves your $1,000 iPhone from the drink. And let’s face it, you probably have a 4×4 vehicle for going off the grid, so why compromise with protecting your gear and valuables?
