On Friday, March 8, 2024, two anglers travelled by ambulance to the Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital; one in critical condition after their boat struck Rattlesnake Island on Sam Rayburn Lake during the first day of competition for the Brandon Belt’s Grand Slam Charity Tournament the lake. The early morning fog and low light visibility apparently made navigation suspect at best, and the boat was catapulted onto the rocks and came down on one of the anglers. Both anglers were transported to the hospital after Sam Rayburn Volunteer Fire Department showed up and got the two men ashore.
